Heaven's Gain Ministries

Volunteers

Volunteers are a very important part of Heaven’s Gain Ministries.  Our volunteers do various “jobs”  according to their preferences and our needs.  Over 30 volunteers make this ministry possible and we could use more help.  Several opportunities for various skills are needed; crafters, RN’s, woodworkers, maintenance, artists, data entry,  IT, social media, cleaning, grant writer, fundraising,  research writing, counsellors, order fulfillment, and more.  Please consider volunteering or donating to our ministry.

Kathy

As a widowed Mom/Grandma/Great-grandma/retired nurse, I have had a few more experiences that a lot of people have had.  As a pianist/organist, I have played for lots of events, including birthday parties, weddings, funerals, and multiple church services.  I love people.  I love being of service to folks.  When I first heard of Heaven’s Gain Ministries, whose sole purpose and existence is to help people who are hurting, there was no doubt in my mind that this is something I had to do.  To me the height of grief would be the loss of a child.  In my family, we’ve had to experience death at different stages of life.  No one wants to talk about the death of an unborn child, but it happens.  That lost soul deserves to be remembered, not forgotten.

Enter Heaven’s Gain.  By volunteering here, in the process of helping folks who are suffering, I have met some awesome women who want to do the same and we totally enjoy one another’s company.  There shouldn’t be a need for such small caskets and urns, but there is.  Thank God for Heaven’s Gain to allow us the opportunity to provide what families need to get through this.

Pat

For as long as I can remember, I have always done some type of volunteer work.  As a young teen, I was a candy striper, then a babysitter.  After my children were grown and gone from home, I was faced with divorce.  I had started sewing when my children were small and after I divorced, I turned to quilting and eventually got involved with quilting for the premie babies in the NICU at Good Sam hospital in 2000.  I still quilt for them now and I am also the host for Sew In for Women several times a year.  For several years I volunteered at Bayley’s Place in medical records and then at Adult Daycare.  In 2020,  COVID hit and I was home a long time.  Early in 2022, my sister-in-law went to a dance for Heaven’s Gain and told me they were looking for volunteers.  So here I am.  This mission does so much.  I, myself, had two miscarriages.  Back then, there was nothing for any kind of support.  I enjoy helping prepare items to distribute.  Also, I really enjoy the other workers a lot.  Everyone is very nice.  I feel God led me to this volunteer work.

Eileen

My name is Eileen and I have been married to my husband, Joe, for 32 years.  I have one living son, Tony, and I lost my other son, Bill, when he was 25 years old from a glioblastoma brain tumor.  I am very active at Donauschwaben, a German cultural group.  I love being with my family and friends, playing games and scrapbooking.  I have been volunteering at Heaven’s Gain Ministries for over 3 ½ years.  I love working there…we have lots of laughs and I’ve made great friends.

Shirley

I am recently retired and was looking for a volunteer job with some purpose.  I found it in Heaven’s Gain Ministries!  We do a lot of crafting for the caskets and urns.  The people in charge are super sweet and caring.  The volunteers are terrific also.  We have so much fun.

Suzanne

My name is Suzanne and I have been volunteering for Heaven’s Gain Ministries since 2019.  I have three grown sons and I grandson.  It has been a blessing meeting new friends and assisting Heaven’s Gain in their beautiful mission.

Jack

My name is Jack and I’m volunteering at Heaven’s Gain Ministries.  I volunteered because I needed service hours for school and I thought they were a good cause to help.

Judith

I recently moved to the Cincinnati area and was hoping to find a volunteer opportunity.  God answered my desire when I met Kathy after mass and she invited me to join the Heaven’s Gain volunteers.  I look forward to coming every week to see new found friends, to catch up on everyone’s lives and to share our stories.  Every week so far, we have done something new to help the ministry (i.e. crafting, lots of quality control, and assembling the various items available).  I love how much care, concern and respect is shown to this ministry.  We try to make sure that everything available for the grieving families is as perfect as it can be.  I feel truly blessed to be a part of Heaven’s Gain.

Dona

I am retired and have been married for 33 years.  We have four children, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.  I have been looking for a ministry to volunteer some of my time.  A couple of friends from my church told me about this ministry they went to and I decided to come and see if I fit in.  The women here are a wonderful and unique group.  They make me feel welcome and what we do doesn’t feel like work.  It feels like we are giving love and support to couples that are hurting.
